It would explain Randy turning into a walker, Shane turning after being stabbed and those two guards two episodes back who weren't bit. I wonder if Shane's craziness was influenced by the virus, he was acting extra weird in the last episode. It was probably what the scientist told him at the end of last season.

I was starting to think that maybe Shane was a healthy carrier - someone who has an infection, and can spread it, but doesn't show symptoms. It's what I was thinking to explain why he was acting so crazy and thought maybe he infected Randall somehow, since they very deliberately didn't show exactly what Shane did to him.

Spoiler: Daryl noted that Randall's neck was broken, and Shane said that's what he was going to tell everyone. My guess is Shane broke his neck.

I don't know that Shane was acting weird because he was a latent carrier of the virus, but I think it's a plausible theory that everyone is carrying the virus, which only activates upon death. I'm disappointed we still haven't learned what the dude at CDC told Rick. I had assumed that it was "Dude, you're wife is totally pregnant."

And half the cast will be killed off.

And the writers will be be enrolled in creative writing classes over hiatus, with particular emphasis on characterization and pacing.

All of this would lay the groundwork for a third season that's consistently good.
