I like Will Ferrell, but I didn't really see what the point of having him on the show was. He didn't even do anything.

Plus, telling us well in advance that he was only going to be in 4 episodes completely killed the stakes for every storyline that involved him.

And his character was written all over the map. It's like the writers wanted to get in every "stupid incompetent boss" archetype that they could, in the short time they had with him.
