The end of the episode proves this isn't going to be a series faithful to the literature at all, which is a good thing. Big worries surrounded how they were going to stay true to the comic book after introducing some characters too early and compactly. I guess the answer is "We're not going to."
Maybe something indicating that he was lying when he said the rest of the world was just as screwed as Georgia appears to be? The location of another facility?
Of course, if that's the case, it seems like kind of a dick move to lie about that. Maybe he had nothing to live for and simply didn't want to die alone?
He seemed pretty unhinged, so maybe.

I wouldn't be surprised if they keep up with not sticking to comic canon. I hope so, anyway. It kind of ruins it that half the people that watch the show know what's gonna happen.
My girlfriend went ahead and got me some of the comics for christmas, and I'm starting to realize why I didn't like them the first time I tried to read them... it's because they kind of suck.
I like the story, and the writer actually does a pretty decent job of developing the characters, but the dialog is just terrible, it's like reading zombie soap opera. The characters always come right out and say exactly what they're feeling to each other. Also I hate the artwork after the first volume, I guess it's different artist, but half the time you can't even tell which character is which.
They're super easy to read though, you just zip right through them, so they're entertaining enough I guess.
