Bioshock: Infinite

So the people who made the original Bioshock game have been working on this thing while farming development of Bioshock 2 out to some other company. I loved the first one. I heard the second one was pretty meh, and never played it, and don't much care to.

Anyway, rather than being set in the mid-1960s in a crumbling undersea Utopia built by a guy who took Atlas Shrugged perhaps a bit too literally, this game is set in the early 1910s, in a floating city in the sky. There aren't any real details about the story, or how it ties in with the other Bioshock games, but it sure does look pretty.

Teaser:

Actual gameplay:

I am excited, as you should be.

If I had a video game system I would be all over this.

Perhaps if someone here were to buy me one for my soon approaching birthday. Otherwise I don't really see myself getting one so I can play one game.

Go a few months without buying hipster ephemera, and then you'll have enough saved up to buy one.

I have pretty much zero time for video games nowadays, grandpa pizza is too old for videogames, or likes them ironically. He totally has an atari hooked up in his house next to Betamax.

I like video games, I think they're fun and all, I just don't play them that much and they're not a big interest of mine. I've dedicated more than a half hour to maybe... 5-6 new games over the past ten years. We didn't really play them that much growing up either, just arcade games, we never had no atari or nintendo. Bioshock is one of the few recent games I've played and I loved it, that's why I'm interested in this.

You wanna know what Old Man Pizza remembers? Back in the day you used to be able rent VCRs at the video store along with VHS tapes. We didn't have one so every time we went to Blockbuster we'd have to rent this huge, clunky ass VCR along with the movie. They should do the same thing game consoles.

they rented playstations and N64s around here when they first came out. Oh how Moris wished he had pennies to save to rent a game console. I loved playing games when I was younger but only got a new console once it was about to be replaced. Its probably a major reason why I spoil myself when it comes to videogames. Compensation, childhood reparations, here ya go Moris' inner child, you deserve it.

My first game console was a Sega Genesis. My sister and I saved up our allowance for what felt like years (in reality I think it was a few months) to buy it.

I still have it, and I don't think I'm ever getting rid of it, even if I never play it again.

Aww man, me and my brother saved up and he bought a Playstation and I bought a Nintendo 64. We both had crappy minimum wage jobs at the time (I think I was busing tables at some fancy pizza place), so it didn't take us that long. I don't know what happened to that Playstation, reading your post makes me wish I knew.

I had the giant brick of a gameboy that first came out. I had it up until a few years ago when my mom decided to give it to some neighbor kid. I'm kind of mad about that still. It was such a collectors piece.

If the gameplay is actually that fast-paced and varied, then this game would be awesome. If it's like Bioshock's repetitive, enter-room-then-shoot-the-same-crazies gameplay, then I'll pass.

The combat in Bioshock wasn't the best.

But it had a really interesting premise, and it was atmospheric as all hell.

The best that can be said for its core gameplay is that it's not bad. But given its other strong suits, that was good enough for me.

Maybe I'll give it another go around (I never played the whole way through). When I started playing Bioshock, I had just finished Half-life 2 Episode 2, which has unsurpassed gameplay in addition to a compelling atmosphere and just enough storyline to keep you motivated but not so much that you're sitting around bored as they explain the plot to you (*cough* Halo *cough*).

I wonder if any of us will be alive when Half Life 2, Episode 3 comes out.

Those scientists better get to work on life-extension, and fast.

I'm genuinely worried about being "too old for video games" by the time HL2:E3 comes out. It would be tragic if I could not complete the epic journey I started in 1998.

Duke Nukem Forever was playable at PAX. It will be released in 2011.

They were making jokes about that game being chronically delayed 11 years ago.

And it's probably going to come out before we get so much as a screenshot of HL2:EP3.

Throw us a freakin' bone, Valve!
