Mac or PC?

Windows 7 just came out and I've read that mac sales are up. Would you switch to a mac? Do you already use one? Thoughts?

I would use one sure. I would not pay one and half times the amount for one over a pc though.

I'd tap it. Justin Long that is. He's got that cute, nerdy boy next door thing going on. He's adorable.

I tend to ignore the commercials. I just have a thing for guys with brown hair that are nerdy.

Just get a really nice (though admittedly overpriced) Mac, install Boot Camp, and run OSX and Windows at the same time.

Problem solved.

I'm not planning on getting a new computer, I'm just asking which people prefer.

I had the opportunity to use Windows 7 for a little while.

It's pretty nice. Its interface is very clean, and a bit minimalist, while still being aesthetically pleasing. The way it manages minimized programs is fantastic, and similar to how it works in a Mac. If you're running multiple instances of the same program (multiple word documents, browser windows, etc.), each program is reduced to a single icon in the taskbar. When you hover your mouse over the icon, it shows you a thumbnail preview of each individual window, giving you the option to maximize one of them, close them, or display each of them in a layered or side-by-side view.

Also, it's incredibly fast, even on older computers.

I can't upgrade. I have a laptop and the hardware is designed to only work with Vista - and they didn't make it so that Windows 7 would be compatible with my system. It really sucks. Vista needs to die in a fire.

getting a pc and getting OSS installed on it is a cheaper solution, though it is a harder and illegal process.

Why is that illegal? If you own the computer can't you do whatever you want with it? Besides look at kiddy porn n' the like. Or commit cyber crimes with it.

I can understand them not wanting you to do that, but like, why is it illegal? Will I actually get arrested if I do that?

Short answer: it's complicated

I don't feel like going into the long answer right now.

If I promise to be a good Dexter will you tell me the long answer tomorrow?

I know a couple of people would boot OSX off their HP laptops. If you're the type of person who downloads movies and music without a second thought then you're fine. If you want to assuage your guilt you could always go buy OSX and then do it but I doubt that satisfies the legal spiderweb.

I've been using 7 for a while.
I like it.

So the companies that make those "Hackintosh" computers has just lost a very important legal battle.

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704538404574538100148447862.html?mod=googlenews_wsj

Basically, a federal court in San Francisco ruled that this company (Psystar), ruled that Apple's end user license agreements are valid contracts, and therefore enforceable. Those license agreements, among other things, prohibit users from installing the software on unauthorized hardware, and that Psystar violated that agreement by installing them on off-the-shelf computers.

So, they're pretty much out of business now.
