Yeah it's pretty much a hoax. Apparently the DA is trying to find more serious charges to charge them with besides a class 3 misdemeanor because they're pissed about the hoax.

Apparently the family is trying to get their own reality TV show and this was to get attention.

And in an interview after the incident by the news the kid said he was hiding in the box because his dad said "it was for the show."

What a bunch of a-hole loonies.
