They started showing the second series of this on BBC a while back and I gave it a shot but couldn't quite get into it. I think it's one of those things that I'll have to watch right from the start.

I think it's one of the best shows on TV right now.

However, you really should start from the beginning.

Also, as A_S said, the plot does move really slow, and while every story thread tends to eventually pay off in one way or another, it's usually a long time coming, and the payoff isn't huge.

Really, the show is about the characters, and how they develop over time. If you can't get invested in the characters, it's not a show you're going to enjoy.
