So, apparently it's possible for foreigners to visit North Korea as tourists.
You generally have to go in through China, but it's possible. The tours are tightly controlled, and tourists are supervised everywhere they go. The intent is to create a positive image of the country, but it just underscores how messed up and bizarre the place is.

That's the first of 3 parts. It's morbidly fascinating, and is intercut with the propaganda movies that all visitors are required to watch, which starkly contrast with reality, even in the areas that tourists are allowed to see.
