So, apparently it's possible for foreigners to visit North Korea as tourists.

You generally have to go in through China, but it's possible. The tours are tightly controlled, and tourists are supervised everywhere they go. The intent is to create a positive image of the country, but it just underscores how messed up and bizarre the place is.

This guy went and filmed as much as he was allowed to, and you can watch it here

That's the first of 3 parts. It's morbidly fascinating, and is intercut with the propaganda movies that all visitors are required to watch, which starkly contrast with reality, even in the areas that tourists are allowed to see.

That girl at the tea shop - she was just so happy for a few minutes of human interaction.

What an insane place. It's hard to believe life can suck that much in an industrialized country in the 21st century.
