Next mayoral election is in 2011. He's term-limited out.
I don't imagine the people of this city will elect anyone better. I mean, Newsom is a gigantic tool, but every once in a while, he would do something indicating his recognition that this city should stop taxing and regulating itself into oblivion.
If there's one thing that needs to change, it's the circus that is the city's board of supervisors.
Oh, and the guy that Newsom picked to be the new chief of police seems pretty solid so far.
I'm seeing a lot more foot patrols in the most dangerous parts of town, and the city's abysmal homicide clearance rate (somewhere around 25%, compared with a 50% national average for similarly-sized cities) is increasing pretty rapidly.
My name is Chris Daley! Let's ban every company that employs more than 30 people from this city, because we hate those big corporations, sitting in their corporation buildings, being all corporation-y, and making money!
Also, let's prevent chain stores from being built in Chinatown, to preserve its unique character! Never mind that some of the poorest people in the city live there, and would maybe like to have an affordable pharmacy! They're poor and don't pay a lot of taxes, so screw 'em!
We'll treat them like museum pieces, and, by God, they'll like it!
What's sad is there really aren't that many cities in this country, period, that are appreciably better than San Francisco when it comes to being business friendly.
V For Vendetta sucks. It's poorly acted, the dialog is meh and the action is typical and nothing interesting (Which I didn't expect given the producers/directors)
