Just bought the Half-Life 1 anthology

15 bucks, worth every penny.

It's gonna be good times. I haven't played this game in forever.

Does anyone happen to know the status on the source re-make of the original Half-Life (the one not made by Valve and which probably could be sued over)?

I don't know, but it looks like it's going to be awesome.

Also, Valve is well aware of this independent re-make, and has voiced no opposition to it, which is in keeping with their history of supporting the modder community.

Also, HL1 feels really, really dated. Some parts of it have not aged well at all.

It's still pretty fun, though.

I played HL1 not too long ago and it has aged, but then again its a 10 year old video game.

Start from the beginning. It's pretty good.

Best series ever. I hope Valve doesn't stumble on HL2:Ep3.

I'm sure it'll be great.

I just wish we'd get some information on it sometime soon.

I liked Counter-Strike when Unreal Tournament sound effects were not ubiquitous, when hostage-rescue missions existed (which I think encouraged teamwork more than the bomb maps do), and when servers weren't flooded with tiny maps with no objectives.

I played a lot of Counterstrike freshman year in college. We'd play big LAN games in the dorm. Those were good times.

Man, in retrospect, Black Mesa is filled with a bunch of bullshit rooms that make no sense.

Why is the switch to turn on a gigantic fan that can kill you underneath said fan, so after you turn it on, you have to pass through the spinning fan?

Why are the controls to the water valves always in a place that will be submerged once the valves are open?

Why is there a generator that can only be accessed by riding those weird things that move back and forth really fast along the wall, and instantly kill you if you aren't on them when they start moving?

Whoever designed Black Mesa was a douchebag.

Oh, and the generator is in a pool of toxic waste.

It was constructed with government money. What do you expect? They probably spend $50 billion on it, too.

Powerful lobbyists for the vertical wind tunnel industry must have been involved.

Indoor skydiving lobbyists, I imagine.

One of my part-time jobs involves government construction and contracting and I have to say - it's all very plausible that bases like the ones in Half-Life one do exist, and have been built with your tax dollars.

I do think, however, that a resonance cascade is very unlikely.

The free market will prevent resonance cascade scenarios.
