At least, you have a PS3 to play while it's gone.

it's not urgent scaler chip is funked. occasionally I get a scrambled pixeled screen at start up and sometimes I get a E74 error. but maybe the 3rd try at turning it on its fine. so I'm going to wait until it gets really annoying.

even someone like me (someone who has a high end pc, ps3 and a wii) there are enough good titles to warrant me spending 200 bucks on a console.

ah, to spend 200$ for the ability to spend 50$/title on several titles

makes sense

That's cheaper than a lot of other hobbies.

you've pretty much described owning any console ever.

Except back in the day SNES games were like $70

any new console.  snes games are as fun now as they were back when they were 70$/game, so the trick is to rock out to the older systems/games until the newer ones drop in price.

unless the newness of the game is worth the extra money, in which case, anything goes

It's not the "newness" of a game that I look for. I look for games that are fun to play.

I love lots of older games. I still bust out my Genesis from time to time, but I'm not going to deprive myself of a game that I want to play for an indeterminate period of time.

That said, I probably only buy one new console game a month (often going far longer stretches without buying anything game-related), and I usually buy them used.
