it's not urgent scaler chip is funked. occasionally I get a scrambled pixeled screen at start up and sometimes I get a E74 error. but maybe the 3rd try at turning it on its fine. so I'm going to wait until it gets really annoying.

you've pretty much described owning any console ever.
any new console. snes games are as fun now as they were back when they were 70$/game, so the trick is to rock out to the older systems/games until the newer ones drop in price.
unless the newness of the game is worth the extra money, in which case, anything goes

It's not the "newness" of a game that I look for. I look for games that are fun to play.
I love lots of older games. I still bust out my Genesis from time to time, but I'm not going to deprive myself of a game that I want to play for an indeterminate period of time.
That said, I probably only buy one new console game a month (often going far longer stretches without buying anything game-related), and I usually buy them used.
