Okay, so I just saw the movie I Am Legend with Will Smith, and I haven't been this angry in a long, long time.
First, the movie was ****ing stupid. It was inconsistent within the framework it opposed ON ITSELF. Okay, so some virus makes people get crazy aggressive and start eating people -- nothing new. For the first maybe ... thirty minutes this made sense and the movie was pretty decent. Lots of suspense, some scary tension. So far, so good. THEN, these "rabid" humans started plotting against him, setting traps, sending infected dogs after him, planning vaired attack waves with specialized functions. LOOK. If you say that the virus made people go crazy and kill ****, fine. But don't give them human ****ing intelligence! That totally negates whatever reasoning there ever was for their heightened aggression. That is retarded. Shame on you, makers of this horrible movie.
Second, Will Smith should have died when he was first wounded and attacked by infected dogs. Why? Because there is no reason that the infected humans would not have followed immediately behind those dogs, just as ready to tear him apart as the dogs were. The only explanation for this is that they were being restrained by their "leader" infected guy who inexplicably is able to command and lead these other *******s. However, there is no reasoning for this. If they wanted Smith dead, and they had a perfect opportunity to do so, there is no reason that they would hesitate even for a second. This rings especially true because they are supposed to be hyper-aggressive and blood thirsty.
Third, and BY FAR the most important and most infuriating is the perpetuation of this Hollywood tendency to reject reason and embrace irrational mystic bull****. The heartless atheist scientist ALWAYS must realize how horribly wrong he was and how the universe has meaning and there is a benevolent God up there. Sure, this makes no sense but don't it feel good? Let's deliver the cure that was found through this scientist's tireless quest for a serum, through endless nights of frustation and hopelessness, through Reason and the scientific method, to our little God-fearing church-centric survivor's colony that is building a world based on our ever-lasting faith and the stolen scientific work of a sensible man.
**** you, Hollywood. **** you in the Hell that does not exist, forever.
Oldboy is being re-made with Will Smith as the main character, the guy who adapted I Am Legend is doing the re-write. Naturally I am already disappointed. Will Smith can not act well enough for the part, and I'm sure the story will get reworked into oblivion. Spielberg is directing, so there's hope that it'll be mediocre despite all of the strikes it already has against it..
