Interesting, but I'm sure the benefits of straighter, wider highways outweigh the negative effects of the laziness it may cause. There is some truth in the idea of 'making things unsafer to make them safer'. I've had a little to do with subdivision design and sometimes it's beneficial to create winding road through suburban areas to force drivers to slow down. That's the only example that I know of anyways.
