Despite my hatred for Kuhl, I would tend to vote in Republicans to the state level, because they're pretty fiscally sound. That is; so long as things like Roe V Wade remain established.
California has non-partisan local elections, so I actually have to do some research in voting for local officials who aren't foaming-at-the-mouth socialists. Not that any of them have a chance at winning.
My hometown representative, from California's 4th District.
John Doolittle is a Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives currently representing California's 4th Congressional District. He is currently under federal corruption investigation. Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington rates him as one of the 20 most corrupt members of Congress.
He is running for reelection, and his main competitor is a guy named Charlie Brown. He ran against Doolittle in 2006, losing by just 3 points.
Edit: actually, a few months ago he announced that he would not be seeking re-election, and would be retiring after completing his current term. The race is now between Charlie Brown and Tom McLintock, who lives in Southern California, hundreds of miles away from the 4th District.
