If you want your brain to hurt, do a search for "moon hoax" on Facebook, and read some of the mind-numbingly stupid things written in the dozens of groups dedicated to the idea that the moon landings never happened.
THE MOON LANDING IS A HOAX. LIKE, HELLO, DID THEY THINK WE WOULDN'T NOTICE THERE AREN'T STARS IN SPACE? TOO LAZY TO PAINT STARS ON THE BLACK STUDIO BACKDROP, HMM?
In the comments on one of Bad Astronomy's posts about the moon landing, a hoax believer simultaneously made the "waving flag" argument (THERE'S NO ATMOSPHERE ON THE MOON!!! IT MUST BE FROM TEH A/C ON THE SOUNDSTAGE!!1), and another argument, which I've never heard before: the lunar lander would have burned up in the moon's atmosphere, which he was just arguing didn't exist.
That was some stupidity for the ages, right there.

they don't know what inertia is.
plus, my favorite misconception EVER is that there is no gravity in space. so how could the golf balls possibly fall back to the "moon" after the astronauts hit them?!?!
Being a liberal arts major is no excuse for that level of ignorance. I mean, we're talking some of the most basic principles which govern the workings of the natural world, here.
Hell, I majored in political science, and while I obviously don't consider myself an authority on these things, I try to educate myself about science at least a little bit.

too bad the pen accelerates to the surface of the moon at the same rate as the astronaut and his heavy boots. oh wait... mass repels other mass, so it should float away, right?!
edit: basic physics should be a mandatory requirement for schooling at all levels.
it's surprising that this TA could: graduate from high school, graduate from college, and score sufficiently well on the GRE to get into grad school at madison. since these are implausible, i claim that this story is a lie
