How are numbers objective?

Keep in mind that I'm not using the "not influenced by personal taste" sense of objective, but the "not dependent on the mind for existence" sense. I very much think numbers exist only in the mind. Objects exist objectively -- and in numbers. But numbers themselves exist only because they are perceived/reasoned/conceived through mind.

Umm... actually, by definition, it does.


To be more specific:

objective:  intent upon or dealing with things external to the mind rather than with thoughts or feelings, as a person or a book.
