not everyone in the world is a rational individual, no doubt some georgians are, but the majority are fiercely nationalistic and quite frankly irrational. Govenment didn't slaughter Rwandans, Rwandans did. You think it was only the serb government that killed the muslims? No it was regular serb citizens as well as soldiers that brutalized and raped muslim men and women.

So, this thing is escalating with no sign of slowing down. It seems there is a chance that Turkey might intervene on Georgia's behalf. Georgia has pulled all of its troops out of Iraq (flown back to Georgia by the U.S., which has irked Russia) to join the fight.

Has Vegas set odds on this thing leading to WWIII?

Russia invading a tiny breakaway province that nobody gives a rat's ass about.

Seriously, the whole South Ossetia region has about 70,000 people. It appears that most of them have left for Russia, or have died and/or stayed behind to fight Georgia.

Most cities and towns in the region have basically been destroyed. It's obvious that this war isn't about South Ossetia for Russia. Georgia was getting too close to the west, but they were denied a fast track to NATO membership. Russia is now taking that opportunity to effectively annex them.

I don't know a thing about Georgia or Russia's relationship with them. I don't watch the news much anymore, so I can't get my opinions from talking heads and it just hasn't interested me.


Maybe when Russia drops an H-Bomb I'll care.
