The crime for which he was convicted (giving material support to terrorism), he effectively admitted in open court. He said something to the effect of "I drove Osama Bin Laden and transported weapons for Al Quada, and continued to do so even after I learned what they were all about." Now, he claims that he had no ideological connection to them, and that he was only doing what he did to support his family. That may all have been true, but it's irrelevant in the guilt phase of the trial.
It might be relevant in the sentencing phase, and if it was, the sentence he was given shows that the jury gave it a lot of weight: he got time served plus 5 months. The prosecution was pushing for 30 years to life.
If his confession was true and accurate, that also supports his acquittal on conspiracy charges.
