I used to live in Echo Park. It was way more hood back then. 213 used to get mentioned in songs. Was that a 90s thing? Do rap songs still mention area codes?
Anyway, I live in the "Downey" area.

The following contains quotations of Cheese talking over my typing.
Cheese says: "Bummer. Because we live close to Echo Park."
I think the zip code motif has faded from rap as gang relations have been de-emphasized in favor of the theme of entering and exiting clubs to flaunt extravagant wealth. "But we are 323, for what it's worth."
It's pretty awesome, if hipstery. Echo Park itself is really nice, since it was just redone. There are fancy new gastropubs along Sunset, but there are also people grilling corn and asada out of carts or trucks. I've been spending the past few weeks exploring all the taco places, and it's been wonderful. We're all pretty happy here. I don't think anything is weird, just different (and often better).
I call these freeways "the" and I call those [east coast] highways "Route."
They finally opened some Dunkin' Donuts here and the lines are ridiculous. People here are dumb. If you really want good donuts, go to DK in Santa Monica.
Do you like Korean food? There's a good fusion place in Chinatown called Chego. OR you can just try Korean BBQ, there's tons of that.
Speaking of food, a few nights ago I want to Creamistry and got 2 small ice creams for $15+. That **** is not worth it =| It was $1 for each topping--- and they only give you a baby's handful.
