Granted, if the people they killed really were members of the Sendero Luminoso, then those killed were likely murdering savages anyway. However, the ambiguities and the issues of imperfect information that plague situations of summary execution are the most striking motivations for having an exacting legal system with due process for accused members of society. Isn't that one of the primary justifications for having a murdering, thieving nation-state in the first place?
