I've been listening to the following artists lately:

Bloc Party
The Kooks
Fleet Foxes
Andrew Bird
Devotchka
The Foals
Jeff Buckley

I've also been listening to a great deal of classical (baroque, actually) music along with a class I'm taking, but I won't count that.

the only non-shitty musicians listed thus far

edit: hitler's taste in music makes me embarrassed for the future of music.  and jason, classical counts for much more than anything else here, with exception of the beach boys.

The Queers and Screeching Weasel have a very similar sound.

I agree that classical music is good.  In fact, the best composers are absolutely sublime.  However:

- A symphony orchestra is not a band

- A baroque chamber quartet is not a band

- An organ is not a band

- A chorus is not a band

- etc. etc.

band2 (bnd) pronunciation
n.

    1. A group of people: a band of outlaws.
    2. A group of animals.
    1. Anthropology. A unit of social organization especially among hunter-gatherers, consisting of a usually small number of families living together cooperatively.
    2. Canadian. An aboriginal group officially recognized as an organized unit by the Canadian government. See Usage Note at First Nation.
  1. A group of musicians who perform as an ensemble.

i guess the claim about the organ was accurate

The word "band" has acquired an uncouth air. It seems almost insulting to call something as refined as a symphony a mere "band".

In summary, I deal in connotation, you deal in denotation. We get it. You can remember that before pulling out the dictionary next time.

The Mars Volta and A Wilhelm Scream are my current two favorites. And I don't care what pizza says, Propagandhi gets better with each release.

Before, though I'm still friends with their last singer. I think they're officially broken up again - apparently no one can really get along with the non-jello members. I think the drummer left for drug problems then the other two just became dicks in the middle of making a new album and it all fell apart.

I should have mentioned Sigur Ros and This Will Destroy You. I've been getting into them lately.

WEH WEH WEH MY NAME IS MATHSEX AND EVERYBODY IS STUPID BUT ME.

The Ramones and The Clash were great bands. Sure, The Ramones weren't the greatest musicians, but you don't have to be a virtuoso to write great songs.

And so hitler listed a few bands that used to be trendy but aren't even that popular anymore. OMG IT'S THE END OF MUSIC AS WE KNOW IT. He's a Canadian, what do you expect? They don't know what's cool up there.

MATHSEX's claim that I was wrong to exclude classical music from a list of my favorite bands.
