I did not say that PETA is a good organization. I said that it is wrong to project your past child abuse on animals. That has nothing to do with PETA's policy recommendations or PETA's tendency to emphasize animal over human suffering.
freedom actually makes the end product better. because exercise and a more varied diet makes for a fitter bird than a fat one that doesnt get to move.
and have you ever had an egg from an actual small farm place? living in the country there are loads of places that sell surplass eggs from chickens that get to roam about and eat a varied diet and goddamn, those are delicious yellow yolks.
as far as i'm aware the only instances where cruelty results in better food is fois gras and veal if you prefer the white one to the rose veal. and theres the odd random heard of cow thats kept inside and just fed alcohol or something and massaged daily for some crazy kind of meat. but for regular meat that most people can actually afford, the free-er the better.
Taste is pretty subjective, so you can't really say either way what tastes better. But I"ve never really checked out what I eat and whether it is free range and what isn't. Normally when I goto the store, I just goto the brands I like the most.
I find I can't really afford to buy all ethically farmed meat, or even a decent percentage of it really. I do feel slightly bad about it, hopefully it's something I can do in the future.
