In the original, an alien informs the human race that if their arms race (it was made during the Cold War) threatens anything beyond their atmosphere, some federation of alien races will destroy the human race.
In this one, an alient informs the human race that if their pollution threatens the health of their planet, some federation of alien races will destroy the human race.
I'm thinking there's a lapse of logic in the second one...
Why would aliens give a **** about the environment on one tiny planet? Global warming and localized air and water pollution are not going to make this planet inhospitible to life, if that's what these aliens value. There doesn't seem any rationale that an alien race could have for prefering some kinds of life over others unless the distinction is between intelligent versus non-intelligent life. If they preferred intelligent life, they would not wipe out the human race. If they preferred unintelligent life, they would wipe out the human race regardless of their effects on the ozone layer.
