What are your thoughts on San Francisco taxing you so they can promote the usage of electric vehicles?

Horrible.

I'd love to see a market for electric cars emerge. The Tesla Roadster is the coolest damn thing ever.

Of course, the government can't force these things.

I think, given the jurisdiction of city governments as they are now, installing charging stations would be the city's responsibility. After all, they own the curbs, they own the street-side parking, they own the traffic signals whose electricity could be used to power these stations. Who else would be able to do it?

Of course, this should not be the case. But given that it is, San Fran is being pretty ... well, progressive about this.

You make a good point.

Compared the the countless other half-baked pet projects that SF has come up with, this one seems pretty benign.

Letting the "Big 3" fail might turn out to be the best thing that ever happened to the U.S. auto industry.
