A movie is being made about the Mayan calender 2012 nonsense. I'm sure you've heard of it. The Mayan long count calendar ends in 2012, and for no real reason, people have jumped to the conclusion that this means the world is going to end in 2012.
From the teaser trailer it looks like it's going to be a generic big budget disaster movie, though the special effects look pretty neat.
The trailer ends by saying "Find the truth: Google '2012'"
That's pretty irresponsible, if you ask me. There are already plenty of nutcases who buy into this crap, and the last thing people need to do is encourage people to believe that this is anything other than a big dumb disaster movie.
A few months ago on the radio they had a top 5 list of when the world was going to end. This was about the time of the particle collider thingy started. One of the things mentioned was the 2012 Mayan calendar... Someone was telling me how it could be true. I'm not expert on the subject but I told them that if the ancient Mayan civilization was still around today using the same calender, I'm sure they'd just change it to give them another couple thousand years. If I went through my grandfather's old stuff and found a diary who's date finished in 1987 all it means is that he died before he could buy a new one.... not impending doom.
