A lot of conservatives aren't crazy or bigoted, but they aren't the loudest voices. For the GOP to clean its increasingly tarnished image, there have to be real and public changes in their platform that explicitly address the issues of religion and race. They've been trying to ignore this issue for years for fear that they will lose their powerful base of crazy, bigoted zealots. This election should prove to the GOP leadership, though, that they can no longer rely on that base to keep them in power; they have already made too many sacrifices to keep it.
In a glimmer of hope for Texas, I have spotted more than 2 obama stickers, and there's a 6 foot tall Obama.Biden sign on the main thouroughfare by my house.
Unless Palin wants to call Williamsburg "fake Virginia" I think my statement stands; even some of the areas that consistently vote conservative are learning Obama.
Not my hometown, though. Not unless there is an unprecedented turnout among black voters.
