Playon (Hulu, netflix, youtube) On a Wii/PS3/360/Mediacenter PC

Website

How it Works

MediaMall's PlayOn software is a DLNA/UPnP media server that pulls RSS feeds from content providers, and presents them to DLNA-compliant networked media devices. In plain English, this means you can use your game console or networked television to watch feeds from providers like YouTube and Hulu. The PC software pulls in the media streams and then sends them directly over your home network to your device, even converting their formats on the fly to make sure the devices can play them. Simple as that.

PlayOn is similar to ActiveTV. With PlayOn, we leverage the existing browser and UPnP functions of game consoles and networked televisions, and use the PC in the middle to bring in the content from the Web, passing it over your home network to the device. With ActiveTV, we work closely with the device manufacturers to embed a special "browser" in the device, that is able to communicate with our PC software, to present Internet media and special TV-web pages. From your perspective as a user, you are mostly getting the exact same content -- it's just a question of how it's presented.

Minimum Requirements

The following are the minimum requirements for the PlayOn PC software:
  • Microsoft Windows XP (Service Pack 2 or later), Windows Vista, or Windows Server 2003/Windows Home Server (Service Pack 1 or later). 64-bit versions of Windows are also supported
  • Windows Internet Explorer 6.0 or later
  • Windows Media Player 11.0 or later (click here for assistance on Windows Server 2003)
  • Installation includes the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 if needed
  • Minimum 1.5 GHz x86 processor
  • 512 MB RAM
  • 100 MB of available disk space for installation, plus recommended 4-5 GB extra space on the same drive where Windows is installed
  • Internet broadband connection, and home network LAN with wired or powerline connections. For wireless home networking with 802.11g, either the PC or device must be on a wired connection

Is it stilla bitch to setup the 360 as a mediacenter?

I may get a PSP now.

Install on PS3, remote play through PSP and you have access to hulu and netflix from anywhere. Sounds pretty badass.
